There are plenty of incredible applications such as Spotify and Slack that sucks battery life, because they basically operate a complete copy of Google Chrome in each window. Chrome is a notorious energy pig and triggering multiple copies of its flashing engine inside four different applications can have unnecessary memory and sources.
However, you can create your own, much better versions using Safari web applications. Web applications are easy to make in Safari and live in your Mac dock.
For applications you use every day, such as Spotify, Discord and Slack, it is easier to start them from the dock and move them separately from the browser cards. I’ll show you how they work.
How to create a web application in Safari
Safari web applications will not release your battery and is incredibly easy to use. Although they can be triggered and left independently of Safari, they share Saturday system resources, so they barely perform power.
There are a number of third -party applications with similar features such as Unite and Fleetato. But from my testing I like the best Apple implementation. As I show you, it is trouble -free and incredibly easy to set.
This feature works on MacOS 14 Sonoma or later. Go to System Settings> General> Software Update install. From the older version of MacOS it can be in System Preferences> Software Update.

Add a web page to dock

From any web or web application go to menu panel and click File> Add to Dock. The website name uses for the application name, but you can enter another.
If the site does not have a high -resolution icon, you can also click the icon. I recommend looking great using macosicons.com. Download it and select the web application screen and replace the old.
Click Add When you donate and the app appears in your dock. Click to start by clicking and if you were before, you should still be logged in.
Better energy efficiency, memory use, battery life
For direct comparison, I downloaded official applications based on Slack and Discord and compared their use in the activity monitor.
The difference in energy consumption is sharp. 2-8% for my Safari Safari web application, 10–20% for the official Discord application. This adds up if you leave it open when you are disconnected.
Comparison of file sizes you look at 244 TOB vs. 184 MB for Slack, 15 kb vs. 391 MB for Discord. Apple’s web applications are negligible in storage requirements. Many computers that will operate Sonoma have 8 GB of memory and 128 GB of internal storage installing many chrome -based web applications can really eat space on the disk.
Setting up Safari Web application settings

Click on the menu panel Application Name> Settings And you can decide to hide or view the back/forward buttons in the title, use the background color of the web page in the title and clear the viewing data.
In traditional Apple fashion, you don’t have many settings. If you want more checks and more functions, you can contact third -party applications with multiple features, unnete and fleet.
Not refuge stay in your dock

Adding the web application to your dock also adds it to the Finder applications folder. You can right -click, select Possibilitiesand Acheck Keep in dock.
When you leave, it will disappear, but you can always reopen it from the launchpad (a gesture of the doubles pin on the trackpad) or the reflector (command space). You can also open the application folder by clicking on Finder and hitting an-amand-A shift.
I only keep the applications that I use literally every day in my dock – I cut out the others. The Discord web application is useful, but I can start it quickly using other methods when I need it.
